Major business opportunities for Québec aerospace SMEs
Montréal (Canada), Friday, October 26, 2018 – Aéro Montréal, Québec’s aerospace cluster, is delighted that the Airbus Global Supplier Conference was held in Montréal on October 24 and 25.
This event is held annually at different locations around the world. For its 2018 edition, Airbus selected Montréal to invite its top tier one suppliers to this prestigious conference.
The event kicked off on October 24th with a gala awards dinner recognizing 7 top Airbus suppliers.
The Market Place was also held on October 25th, in which Aéro Montréal and many other partners participated. This event brought together some 20 potential Canadian companies with a view to possibly joining the global supply chain of the European company. The day ended with a cocktail organized by Aéro Montréal, in collaboration with the Government of Québec and in the presence of Airbus suppliers and top executives and many members of Aéro Montréal.
“The arrival of Airbus and the companies that make up its supply chain in Québec is very good news for our entire industrial cluster. The presence of the European company in Montréal reaffirms the city’s position as the world’s third aerospace capital, with more than 200 companies and over 40,000 jobs in this sector,” said Suzanne M. Benoît, President of Aero Montréal.
The aerospace sector in numbers - Our industry has sales totalling $14.4 billion and an average annual growth of nearly 5% over the past 25 years. In the Greater Montréal area, about one in 53 workers is in a trade related to aerospace. More than 70% of Canadian aerospace research and development takes place in Québec and about 80% of production is exported outside Canada.
