Faced with the climate emergency, new international regulations, and increasing pressure from markets and investors, the transition to a low carbon economy is no longer an option. It is a strategic necessity for the competitiveness, resilience, and attractiveness of our businesses. Yet, while 82 percent of Québec companies believe it is urgent to take action, nearly half have not yet begun any concrete steps (Québec Net Positif, 2024).
The Industries Mobilized for Climate Action and Transition (I.M.P.A.C.T.) project emerged from this shared awareness among Québec’s industrial clusters, in the context of the implementation of a first intercluster sustainable development action plan. This large scale initiative will provide a concrete and collective framework to raise awareness among companies about climate risks and opportunities, inform them of existing solutions, and support them in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Every company can make a real difference at its own scale, both for the transition and for its own future. Committing to a process to reduce greenhouse gas emissions means taking concrete action to strengthen resilience in an uncertain context. More immediately, it also means:
It also builds on the experience of existing sustainable development initiatives led by several organizations, including Finance Montréal through its Sustainable Finance and Climate Action Learning Network for Québec SMEs, the BCTQ with the On Tourne Vert program, and Aéro Montréal through its Eco Responsibility initiative. By pooling the expertise, networks, and resources of industrial clusters, I.M.P.A.C.T. aims to create a strong collective lever, building momentum toward action and economies of scale that help reduce the financial and operational burden of the transition for each organization.
I.M.P.A.C.T. will be officially launched in spring 2026. Activities will be offered on an à la carte basis, allowing each company to choose those that are most relevant and aligned with its priorities, availability, and needs. The project team will also be available to guide companies throughout their journey.
A web platform bringing together all resources and activities offered as part of the project will be unveiled at launch. In the meantime, the clusters are continuing their co creation work and the development of project activities with their members, partners, and sponsors.
