An intercluster initiative to accelerate the decarbonization of Québec companies

Faced with the climate emergency, new international regulations, and increasing pressure from markets and investors, the transition to a low carbon economy is no longer an option. It is a strategic necessity for the competitiveness, resilience, and attractiveness of our businesses. Yet, while 82 percent of Québec companies believe it is urgent to take action, nearly half have not yet begun any concrete steps (Québec Net Positif, 2024).

The Industries Mobilized for Climate Action and Transition (I.M.P.A.C.T.) project emerged from this shared awareness among Québec’s industrial clusters, in the context of the implementation of a first intercluster sustainable development action plan. This large scale initiative will provide a concrete and collective framework to raise awareness among companies about climate risks and opportunities, inform them of existing solutions, and support them in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Why should small and medium sized enterprises be interested?

Every company can make a real difference at its own scale, both for the transition and for its own future. Committing to a process to reduce greenhouse gas emissions means taking concrete action to strengthen resilience in an uncertain context. More immediately, it also means:

01
Reducing energy costs
02
Improving efficiency by reducing losses
03
Preparing to meet regulatory requirements

La décarbonation n’est plus qu’un geste symbolique : c’est un choix stratégique pour assurer sa pérennité et sa compétitivité.

A collaborative and structuring initiative - The I.M.P.A.C.T. project is built on an unprecedented collaboration between six industrial clusters:

It also builds on the experience of existing sustainable development initiatives led by several organizations, including Finance Montréal through its Sustainable Finance and Climate Action Learning Network for Québec SMEs, the BCTQ with the On Tourne Vert program, and Aéro Montréal through its Eco Responsibility initiative. By pooling the expertise, networks, and resources of industrial clusters, I.M.P.A.C.T. aims to create a strong collective lever, building momentum toward action and economies of scale that help reduce the financial and operational burden of the transition for each organization.

Pourquoi ce projet?

By supporting companies in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, we contribute to:

01
Meeting Québec’s and Canada’s climate targets by 2030.
02
Positioning our companies as partners of choice within international supply chains.
03
Positioning Québec as a leading and attractive place for investors and talent.
04
Strengthening the resilience of Québec’s economy in an uncertain world.

Key objectives of the project

By 2028, I.M.P.A.C.T. aims to:

01
Mobilize more than 1,000 companies and their employees around climate action.
02
Enable 230 companies to understand where they stand by measuring their greenhouse gas emissions and developing an initial action plan.
03
Catalyze action by supporting companies and building the skills of the teams involved.
04
Highlight cross sector collaboration as a driver of performance and transition.

Why is the aerospace sector concerned?

Program launch

I.M.P.A.C.T. will be officially launched in spring 2026. Activities will be offered on an à la carte basis, allowing each company to choose those that are most relevant and aligned with its priorities, availability, and needs. The project team will also be available to guide companies throughout their journey.

A web platform bringing together all resources and activities offered as part of the project will be unveiled at launch. In the meantime, the clusters are continuing their co creation work and the development of project activities with their members, partners, and sponsors.
